National
Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC)
The National
Environment Awareness Campaign (NEAC) is organized by the
Ministry of Environment & Forests every year since 1986 with
the objective of creating environmental awareness at the
national level. This campaign is being continued this year
also. The theme for
NEAC 2006-07 is:
"Solid Waste
Management"
The
Ministry of Environment & Forests has identified sub-themes
for conducting the campaign. These include household waste and
composting j vermin-composting, municipal waste,
bio-medical waste, plastics waste, waste management at higher
altitude, electronic waste and industrial waste including fly
ash.
Proposals
are invited from the registered NGOs, voluntary organisations,
educational institutions, State Government Departments,
registered professional bodies etc. working in the field of
environment and sustainable development for creating
environmental awareness on the identified theme amongst the
masses. The proposal must include an action oriented
component, which would result in environmental improvement and
benefit to the local community.
The NEAC
programme is conducted through the Regional Resource Agencies
(RRAs) identified by the Ministry. VIKSAT is a RRA for the
Gujarat.
