Report on training programme conducted for health workers  on

Health MDGs

Participants: 37  Health Workers from 25 villages of all the five Panchayat Samitis

Among the participants 12 were women. The participants are informal health workers, dais and those who are educated and enthusiastic. The purpose of the training was to orient them on various issues related to health MDGs so that they can spread the learnings in various villages. The subjects covered were maternal and child health, malaria, TB and HIV/AIDS.

The programme began with welcoming Shri Hemsinghji, Chief Guest of the function and the participants. The participants introduced themselves in a very informal way. They introduced themselves and also to their neighbours. This provided them an opportunity to learn about the other participants who had come from other areas. Shri Hemsinghji talked about various health and education related schemes for women and girls. He also provided supplementary information during other presentations.

Ms. Himali Desai informed the participants about the origin and philosophy of Millennium Development Goals, the status of each MDG in India and India’s achievement vis-a-vis goals to be achieved. She also talked about the current project in Dungarpur and role of an individual.

Dr. Jonwal, Dr. Rao and Dr. Chandel of Medical and Health department addressed the gathering on various issues. Dr. Jonwal talked about maternal and child health care and TB. He informed about reasons, symptoms and treatment for TB. He talked about DOTS at length. Dr. Rao talked about Janani Suraksha Yojna for pregnant women and other schemes under National Rural Health Mission. Dr. Chandel informed the participants about malaria and other common dieses like dysentry. While talking about the reasons and preventive measures for malaria and dysentry, he also stressed on personal and public hygiene and sanitary habits.

Ms. Usha Rao educated the participants about duties and responsibilities of anganwadi workers and the services extended by ICDS department through them. She urged the participants to see that anganwadi workers in their villages discharge their duties sincerely.

Shri Arvindprasad Sharma of Mahaveer International talked to the health workers about the difference between HIV and AIDS. He talked at length about how AIDS is spread and care to be taken. He also discussed many misconceptions prevailing about AIDS in the society. He requested the participants not to look at AIDS patients with hatred but said that they rather need more affection and sympathy.

The programme ended with a vote of thanks by Shri KS Tanwar.
