us
VIKSAT is an activity of Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD)
a registered public charitable trust. NFD was founded by the
eminent scientist and the legendry visionary, Dr. Vikram A.
Sarabhai, in the year 1966. Vikram Sarabhai Centre for
Development Interaction VIKSAT, was established in 1977, the
second of the several activities that were initiated by the
foundation towards all round development of the societies.
VIKSAT, engaged in promotion of participatory management of
natural resources, believes that the goal of sustainability in
natural resources development and management can be achieved
only through decisive participation of the local communities
aided by an enabling role of the government agencies.

Strategy and Thematic Intervention |
VIKSAT addresses the problem of natural
resource degradation, regeneration and sustainable use by
promoting and strengthening participatory resource management
systems. Local communities and concerned government agencies
form important stakeholders in the programmes.

VIKSAT as a Resource Centre |
VIKSAT performs the role of a Resource Centre
in participatory natural resource management through:

Train NGOs, community organisations and government personnel
on technical, social and institutional aspects of natural
resource management;

Information dissemination through publications, newsletters
and electronic media;

Facilitate for Adequate and appropriate people centered
policy / procedural changes / interventions

Reaching out organizations and schools of Gujarat, Dadra and
Nagar Haveli in the capacity of Regional Resource Centre for
NEAC Campaign of MoEF.

Documentation of grass roots experiences through various
print and audio-visual media.

VIKSAT at Grassroots Level |
Key activities carried out at three field units
of VIKSAT are as following:
Work towards overall development of the region
through participation in planning and implementation of
activities as a mission.
Facilitate the process of strengthening PIs
through training, capacity building and exposure visits,
envisaged as following:

Enhancing accessibility of community to technical know-how,
resource availability and management, fund raising, and good
governance by mobilizing them into legal identities such as
Pani Samities, JFM mandlies, SHGs, Village level
Institutions, etc and working with them

Strengthening technical capabilities of PIs
-
Promotion of organisational and Institutional Building of
PIs
