About us

Vikram Sarabhai Centre for Development Interaction (VIKSAT) is a pioneering institution, set up in the year 1977 as an activity of the Nehru Foundation for Development (NFD) to carry out environment improvement activities. VIKSAT felt that lack of interactions is a major bottleneck in involving individuals and organizations in environment protection.  Hence, VIKSAT articulates its mission as promoting and strengthening people's institutions through interactions, for an equitable, gender sensitive, sustainable development and management of natural resources. Activities are guided by the Councils of Management consisting of eminent people in the respective field from across the country.  Vikram Sarabhai Centre for Development Interaction – NFD runs a number of educational activities in the fields of science, mathematics, environment, natural resource management, health and nutrition. Its educational programme reflects the development priorities of the country. VIKSAT Head office is located in Ahmedabad, Gujarat. Over 32 years. Presently, VIKSAT has an outreach to the project villages through its five field offices located in four districts of Gujarat, namely, Bhiloda Sabarkantha district (1985); Satlasana taluka, Mehsana district (1985); Bhuj, Kachchh district (2001); Santalpur taluka, Patan district (2003); and Khedbrahma taluka, Sabarkantha district (2006). VIKSAT has worked at grassroots level with communities in their local regions and tried to reach for the sustainability of natural resources.

VIKSAT has been associated with government departments not only as an implementing partner but also a responsible collaborator to carry forward the development processes in the region.
